So I have this chalkboard in my kitchen that is hanging behind my table. I use it mostly for scripture. Hudson loves it! He thinks it’s funny that Mama gets to write on the “wall”. And at breakfast, lunch, and dinner he asks me or Kevin to read it. Or he “reads” it to us. Our current scripture is from Galatians:
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 ESV
So right on cue at lunch today Hudson asked me to read it. I did. He said, “anin” (translation: again). So I read it again. “Anin” And I did. “Anin”
And then suddenly I could see it.
Do not grow weary.
Right there at my kitchen table.
For in due season we will reap.
In my Hudson’s smile.
If we do not give up.
Isn’t that what mamahood is all about? We referee and correct and discipline. We read the llama llama book and sing the Hot Dog Song anin. We study our bible more. We make it to every night of Vacation Bible School even though bedtimes are missed and babies are cranky. And we’re cranky. We say the ABC’s one more time. We rock our babies and put them in bed for the third time in one night. And we read the chalkboard scripture over and over and over.
And sometimes we do grow weary, but if we listen we can hear the Father saying,
“Don’t give up, in due season you will reap”
at our kitchen tables. With our babies.
Keep on keeping on because what you are doing is beautiful!
